The book has, at the time of writing 37 5 and 4 star reviews on Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk - here are some of them (please note that the book was originally published as "They Shoot Birds, Don't They?"

1) Enjoyed reading this book very much. An interesting & unusual storyline had me gripped to the end wondering what Mason`s fate would be! Although written for youngsters it kept my attention & I`m middle age. Entertaining, informative & a book that makes you think!

3) Really enjoyed this book from start to finish.learned a lot as well.Look forward to a sequel.Good read for adults and children.

4) I have never read a novel quite like this - it is absolutely original and bizarre in many respects but well written in an engaging, pleasing style. The book is based around a normal, decent, enquiring boy who finds himself transported into the most amazing set of circumstances. In the hands of a poor writer, it wouldn't work, it would simply be too surreal. And yet M.P. Jones does make it work. As the story unfolds, we are with the book's central character, Mason, all the way. We share his sense of wonder, his tenacity, his curiosity about the school project he has been set and his own interpretation of it. When his curiosity gets the better of him, readers feel the same way too and it keeps us turning the pages. The novel succeeds on a number of different levels - in addition to being a thrilling mystery, it also invites the reader to think about moral and spiritual issues. It is one of those children's books which can certainly be read by adults who may derive a deeper meaning from it. Just occasionally I could point to the odd rough edge or well-worn cliche poking through - but I'm a journalist, and can spot this sort of thing in my own writing and other people's. But overall this is a very good, utterly unique book.

5) Didn't take me long to read this book as it grabbed me right at the beginning and I wanted to know what was going to happen to Mason the main character as he plays detective in this fast paced story .This is a great read for children and also adults too who fancy a bit of light reading .Found it to be very informative as well .Good book good buy .

6) enjoyed the read.. will read it to the grand kids in due course.

7) The book may have been written for children, but i'm a granddad and I found it to be a very enjoyable read.

8) Just Finished the book it was a very enjoyable book! Was very suprised it had a lot of laughs. Can't wait to read his next book!

9) When a school teacher sets a holiday project, "Debunk an Urban Myth" our hero, a twelve year old boy with embarrassing parents wants to find THE BEST one, to win a national competition and save his house from being taken by the bank. With the help of the internet he sets out to secure victory and a cash prize. Will he succeed? What myth will he debunk? What happens if a cat sits on a baby? Does chewing gum get digested in seven weeks, or years?

10) I was not sure what to expect from this story - it is not my usual read. I have an eight-year-old daughter though, who likes to read a lot, so I was more than happy to take a look. I found an original, interesting and often very funny book, written from the point of view of our young hero. Though written for children, I was very pleased that there was lots of humour to keep me laughing. Perceptive, original and worthwhile, this is reading to keep everyone happy. All the best, for a great new author!

11) Enjoyed reading this book very much. An interesting & unusual storyline had me gripped to the end wondering what Mason`s fate would be! Although written for youngsters it kept my attention & I`m middle age. Entertaining, informative & a book that makes you think!

12)  Locked in the back of a truck with cats, dead birds, extra credit assignments, broke parents, and some other odd mysteries kept me reading. I really enjoyed this one.

13) They Shoot Birds Don't They? has what every kid is looking for, gross stuff like pee and poop and a lot of intrigue. Really, what does happen to birds when they die? This book is entertaining, educational, and has a serious adult problem that a young boy helps solve. And of course, there is mystery and a good sidekick to help Mason, the main character, along the way. Written in clear and fun language, They Shoot Birds Don't They?, is a wholesome yet nail-biting alternative to the mind-numbing media offered to our youth today.

14) This is a very good book. The story is very clever and funny. As a school project 12 year old Mason is trying to find out why he so rarely sees dead birds. The true reason will surprise you!
It is written with a strong fundamentalist Christian bias. That did not bother me too much - as someone who believes in "old earth" theory, I object to Mason's view that if one can rationalize away the literal creation story, they can rationalize away anything. But I've heard the argument enough to shrug it off. Possible spoiler alert: I was disturbed by one bit of moralizing. I, personally, don't see anything wrong with PB&C (but, then again, I can rationalize away anything :-). However, Mason does. He won't take money from the company profits from PB&C, but he is willing to rationalize taking money from the company because they earn money from less unsavory undertakings, too. I see this as a very slippery slope and a poor role model for kids.

15) I  found this book an intresting read, full of wit and humour. The story draws you to flick page by page, wanting to find out what happens at the end. I found myself chuckling at times while reading it. I thoroughly recommend this book as a buy for anyone with kids wanting a story that is both entertaining and also filled with good values and morals.

16) This light hearted book took me back to my youth in delight. It is well written and sprinkled with the right amount of humour. A really fun read for all ages (65 here) and whether you turn cartwheels like me or retired to a rocking chair you will love it! Mason Wilson And The Dead Bird Debacle held my interest and just had to finish it in one setting! Looking for a good read? This is it, go 4 it!
